final lino-cut version

Here's the finished 2008 lino print for the Daily Bread Food Bank.
I love the look of rapidly executed lino prints or wood cuts. I have always loved Munakata's work.

sorry, been sick

I've been down with the flu for a while so I've been lazy with the blog. This was an illustration for The Toronto Star's Starship story contest.

The story dealt with a young woman's curiosity about an olde style door she passes each day, but it too timid to approach.

Sadly for me the final product ran in b&w only, although it did work tonally which is a good thing for an illustrator to know

bookmark project

I book a booth each year at Toronto's Word on the Street festival. I sell copies of my books and handmade bookmarks.

These have really taken off because they are cheap and they wear out each year so people (who don't frame them anyway) need to replace them.

It's also great practise to loosen up my hand. I draw them in bits and pieces all year and then have about 100 of them ready for sale in September.

I'll post as I complete!

2008 lino-cut for Daily Bread

Every year I do a series of lino-prints to raise money for The Daily Bread food bank. This is through the CBC. Last year we raised $11,000. The deal is you donate 100 bucks then you get a print.
This is the sketch for this year's print. Look for details soon here and at cbc.ca/metromorning
